It’s now January, which means that conference play is in full swing, which also means it’s time for another edition of my bracket projection.
While things weren’t all that entertaining over the holidays, as many teams take week long breaks in their schedules, this edition still has some major changes compared to my last one due to some important conference matchups of late.
At the top, two SEC teams hold one seeds, while the conference also holds three two seeds, a three seed and a four seed. This would be the most top four seeds of all time if things looked like this on Selection Sunday, but the SEC isn’t the only conference with would-be record-breaking numbers.
I currently have 12 Big Ten teams in the field, which would break the record for most bid by a conference in NCAA history, but that’s not all, as I have 12 SEC teams making the dance as well.
With the era of super conferences upon us, this might become the norm but, for now, it’s an unprecedented season where two conferences take up over half of the at-large bids to the tournament.
Nonetheless, this bracket has shifted a ton in recent weeks, making this one a better estimate for how the bracket will look like in March. But it’s still early, meaning we’ve got several more weeks of projections before we get the real thing.
