NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Bracketology: Colin McMahon’s bracket projection (Jan. 28)

The SEC's lead for most bids is growing

We’ve almost reached February, which means that more and more teams are looking like tournament locks, but even more teams’ tournament fates are in jeopardy.

Teams such as Nebraska, Indiana and North Carolina are all on the outside looking in after recent losses, while Maryland, Vanderbilt and Creighton have all solidified their spots in the field after each had a very impressive week.

Some of the most entertaining results from the past seven days include No. 7 Houston winning at No. 12 Kansas in what may have been the game of the year, No. 1 Auburn defeating No. 6 Tennessee in a slugfest and No. 11 Purdue dominating No. 21 Michigan at home.

The SEC is still the conference with the most bids, now sitting at 13 after Texas joined the party with a 2-0 week, while the Big Ten is down to nine teams in, widening the gap between it and the frontrunners from the Southeast.

While last week may not have lived up to what was seen in the week prior, it was another very eventful past seven days of hoops, giving some programs new life, while also sinking other programs further into what is looking like an extremely close race for the last few bids into the NCAA Tournament.
