Indiana women’s basketball graduate forward Mackenzie Holmes became the school’s all-time leader in points scored on Sunday afternoon.
Holmes scored her 2,365th point in the fourth quarter against Purdue, in her 136th game as a Hoosier. She passed guard Tyra Buss, a four-year starter from 2014-18, as the program’s leader in points.
Holmes has helped bring the Hoosiers to a new level of success in her five seasons at Indiana. She has played a part in leading the Hoosiers to three straight NCAA Tournaments, which include a trip to an Elite Eight and a Sweet Sixteen. She was also a part in the program’s first Big Ten Championship in over 40 years in 2023.
As an individual, Holmes was named the program’s first team All-American and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. She currently ranks second in blocked shots (239) and fifth in rebounds (939). In her career, she has averaged 17.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists in 136 games played.
This season with Holmes’ help, the Hoosiers are 19-3, with notable wins over Michigan State, Tennessee, and Princeton. Holmes is the team’s leading scorer and the 17th leading scorer in the nation at 20.5 points per game.
